Sickle Cell 5k Race/Walk - Running for Warriors

The Sickle Cell 5K Road Race/Walk is a major attraction for runners! The race is foremost a charitable event, with proceeds supporting our nonprofit mission and programs of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, Inc. (SCFG).
SCFG serves people affected by sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait -- both are genetic blood disorders.
We will assemble at 8:00 a.m. and the Race/Walk starts at 9:00 a.m. For neighborhood planning purposes, event set up will begin at 6:00 a.m. and will conclude at 3:00 p.m. This event will necessitate temporary lane closures and will impact traffic patterns. We advise neighbors, especially in the downtown East Point area, to use alternative paths in and out.
Participants will run the comfortable 5K (3.1 miles) course through beautiful and historic downtown East Point and the city’s diverse communities. While in town, everyone will get a glimpse of the New City Hall and downtown growth, convenient transit, neighborhood charm, hospitality, and robust businesses, which the City of East Point offers. The 5K run is chip timed, the course is certified, and it's a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Rain or shine, our event will go on!
The race will proceed on the following route: The race will commence at East Point City Hall in downtown East Point, 2757 East Point Street. The race will proceed by turning right on East Point Street from East Point City Hall, and turn right on Washington Road; from Washington Road they will turn right to Church Street; from Church Street the racers will turn left to W. Forrest Road and then veer right to Cheney Street to access the ramp, turning right to Norman Berry Drive continuing to R.N. Martin Street. From R.N. Martin Street the racers will turn right to Washington Road going toward Church Street; from Church Street the racers will turn right to W. Forrest Avenue/East Point Street; from East Point Street they will turn right to the East Point Law Enforcement Center and East Point City Hall Complex. The finish line will be located on the driveway between East Point City Hall Complex and the Law Enforcement Center at the raised pedestrian sidewalk.
The Sickle Cell 5K Road Race/Walk will include a pre-race warm-up (with music) and an awards ceremony. We are also looking for those who enjoy spectator sports. If you do not want to run or walk, bring a chair and cheer the runners and walkers along! Better still, bring your family, friends, and co-workers out to support this charitable event. Our fundraiser is aimed to raise funds that will send approximately 70 children to Camp New Hope, our six-night, seven-day, medically supervised camp for kids with Sickle Cell Disease.
Race and walk winners are presented with customized category awards, and all participants earn a coveted race T-Shirt. Sponsors can showcase their products and services at one of the oldest and most family-friendly “cause” events in East Point, South Fulton, and Metro Atlanta areas.
All race proceeds support the mission of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, Inc. and its programs to serve our patients afflicted with sickle cell disease, including Camp New Hope, Georgia’s first and most popular medically supervised summer camp.
T-shirts and Medals are not guaranteed for persons who register on Race Day.
